In February, 1995, I had just
lost my 26 year old sister to cancer (Hodgkins
disease). My mother died the year before from a car
wreck and I had just purchased a ranch the day she died.
I was in the process of moving into a new home, trying
to establish the proper permits, installing a water
line, installing a septic tank, and establishing electric
and phone service.
I
worked as a technical analyst at a major corporation
and was under stress. During the previous three months,
I had lost 55 pounds. I began to drink a lot of fluids
and by February, I had to go the restroom about every
ten minutes every day. I had to continuously take naps
throughout the day and became so weak that I could not
drive. I could not press on the brake hard enough. My
dad took me to the doctor and there we discovered that
I had high blood sugar. I went to a Diabetic specialist
and through lab results; I had a sugar count of over
700. According to the doctor, I should have been in
a coma by that time. He immediately put me in the hospital
and began an IV with insulin shots and a diet of 2000
calories. The doctor and the dietician said I would
have to live with diet pop, low calorie diet and insulin
injections for the rest of my life.
Although
I did not meet Denise until July of 2001, I seemed to
have already possessed some very powerful healing abilities.
I told the doctor and the dietician that I refuse to
believe that I would be insulin dependent for the rest
of my life and that I will prove it!
Every
quarterly checkup, my doctor had to decrease the amount
of insulin I was taking because my sugar levels were
dropping below normal. By May, 1997, I no longer needed
insulin and I have remained off of any insulin or medication
since that time. My hemoglobin count, LDL, and HDL levels
have been better than a normal person since May, 1997.
The doctor cannot explain it; but, I can.
I
began walking at lunch during work and doing ranch work
outdoors while maintaining a low fat and low sugar diet.
Something also occurred during this time. My sugar levels
began to drop below normal and I was not on insulin.
This was a mystery to my doctor.
I
noticed that I had headaches at certain times and felt
like taking a nap sometimes. I did some research and
began to implement a high protein, low carbohydrate
diet along with weight and cardiovascular training.
My sugar levels improved dramatically, I seldom had
headaches, and I felt energized.
The
protein, when digested, converts to sugar slowly because
protein breaks down slowly. Carbohydrates, on the other
hand, break down quickly; faster than sugar does. If
the body cannot consume and readily burn the carbohydrates,
it will store it as fat. By including weight resistance
training, insulin production increases along with endorphins
to energize the body and burn the sugar. The insulin
is created by the pancreas and released in the blood
stream. The blood cells have gates which open and close
and allow sugar to enter the cells to burn which gives
you energy to move about and do the things you do. The
insulin is what opens the gates for the sugar to enter.
Take in mind that everything you eat converts to sugar;
except water. If you eat several carbohydrates, your
sugar level is spiked fast and your pancreas must produce
the insulin faster to keep up with the sugar level in
your blood. When the sugar is consumed or stored as
fat while the pancreas flooded your blood with insulin,
the left over insulin keeps the blood cell gates open
longer and your sugar level drops below normal.
I
also realized that I have a strong connection with nature
and trees. The energy flows through me and I believe
that nature and the trees assisted me with my healing
process. The weight resistance training along with higher
proteins, lower carbohydrates, utilizing good fats and
reducing bad fats, cardiovascular training, a determined
mind set, belief, faith, and visualization made my healing
possible. These are the techniques that Denise uses
in her courses and I will provide the weight training
and outdoor adventure fun.
